A stability home should sit on a strong foundation that can resist all kind of weather and natural disasters--heavy storm or even earthquake --or something that directly hits the building. Foundation work is the first step of construction. The foundation supports the load of the whole building and transfer the load onto the ground underneath.
Broadly speaking, foundations are divided into two categories, spread or shallow foundation and deep or pile foundation. Spread foundation receives the load of the building and transfers directly to the ground. The ground that supports the spread foundation must be stiff enough to support the whole weight of the building. Pile foundation is used where the soil is soft so the load is transferred to the footing, then to the pile and eventually to the stiff soil. The stiff is deep where spread foundation cannot be casted so the pile foundation is used instead.
To decide which type of foundations is used, the soil is tested and evaluated. If the stiff soil is shallow, that does not exceed three meters, spread foundation is used. If stiff soil is 5-to 20 meters deep, pile foundation will be used. An engineer will used the result of the soil test to design the building to suit the type of soil which will ensure the stability and the safety of the building.
