F-182 Modern Tropical Outdoor Home

Introducing a house that is suitable for all of this country’s varying climate including areas prone to flooding.

This one-story stilt home, the F-182 Modern Tropical style, with its gabled roof is suitable for a land size of 81 square wah or 17 by 18 meters. The concept of the design is referred to as a ‘Protex Home’ or flood protected home. The architect designed for a large mirror in the front to make the house look wider. The gabled roof creates a prominent and unique look. The main stairs leading to the house are located in front and the secondary stairs at the rear of the house leading to the washing area. Most of the lower area is open air comprising two parking spaces, a large storage room for gardening equipment and a small bathroom.

The main living area is located upstairs. A wide balcony similar to the traditional Thai styled house is in front. The reception area connects the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen area can either be closed off such as a Thai kitchen or can be kept open similar to European kitchens. There are also three bedrooms—a master and two small ones— which allow access to the natural breezes from outside. For this home design, air conditioning is purely optional.

Flood protected homes or ‘Protex Home’ is a concept of design which applies traditional Thai wisdom to modern design. The full utilization of all functions are preserved and modern construction materials used to save energy and the environment. PD House offices throughout the country apply modern construction innovation—prefabrication structures—to build homes. These parts are made and controlled by a standardized factory which can shorten the length of construction time at all work sites.
